Taxation The County of Athabasca has not increased the total tax rate for the past five years. This was made possible by the Alberta Pacific Pulp Mill assessment and the growth in linear assessment. Tax notices are normally mailed out in late May. The due date for payment is July 31 of each year. A 4% penalty is levied on all current taxes outstanding after July 31. A further 8% penalty is levied on all current taxes outstanding on November 1 of each year. On May 1 of each year a 12% penalty is levied on all unpaid balances.
