Emergency Services
County of Athabasca Emergency Services Department coordinates and manages our community First Responders; those dedicated volunteer firefighters who provide fire protection services for structural and wildland fires, motor vehicle collision rescue and extrication, rural search and rescue as well as emergency medical response.
The County of Athabasca is also the managing partner in the Aspen Highway #63 Regional Ambulance Service, a cooperative partnership between Aspen Health Authority, 19 Municipal jurisdictions and the contract emergency medical service provider Associated Ambulance. The region has bases located in Athabasca, Boyle, Lac La Biche, Thorhild, Smoky Lake and Vilna. The service provided is Advanced Life Support (ALS) which is also supported by air ambulance.
Since June of 1999, the entire County of Athabasca has been serviced by the Provincial Enhanced 911 Service.Dial 911 from any regular telephone and our Call Answer Center automatically identifies your physical address and connects you with Fire, Ambulance or Police Services as you request. The E-911 service ensures that the designated Emergency Response Agency for your area receives your call.
Cell phone users calling 911 should be aware of their exact physical locations, because the E-911 system cannot pinpoint cell phone caller locations.
Use 911 for all Emergencies and help the Fire, Ambulance, and Police to serve you better!
Disaster services and emergency planning are also the responsibility of the Emergency Services Department.
A Regional Emergency Response Plan (4.3 megs)
has recently been
updated. Disaster mutual aid
agreements are also in effect with neighbouring municipalities.
