Regional Camping & Recreation

Athabasca Regional Recreation is responsible for managing the numerous recreation areas throughout the County.  Below is a list of our overnight and day use campgrounds.

Jackfish Lake Campground


Jackfish Lake offers overnight camping in close proximity to the Town of Athabasca. Take highway #55 east of Athabasca, turn north onto the airport road and watch for signs. Overnight camping and day use. 25 sites, well, swimming area, beach, boat launching site and pier.

Fees

 

$15.00 overnight and $4.00 day use is payable at the self registration booth. There is a boating re- striction in the designated swimming area.

 

Week-end resident attendant.

Charron Lake Campground


Situated in the northeast corner of the County, Charron Lake is a popular fishing spot. Take highway #55 east from the Town of Athabasca, turn north onto highway #63. The recreation area is located a short distance out of Atmore on the north side of the highway. Overnight camping and day-use. 16 sites with a boat launch and well.

 

Fees

 

$10.00 overnight and $4.00 day-use payable at the self registration booth.

 

No site attendant.

 

No reservations.

Forfar Recreation Park

 

According to local residents, the name "Forfar" was given to the school district in the early 1900s.  Forfar Community Club was established several years later and although the school is long gone, the name Forfar remains tied to the district.

 

Forfar Park is a popular camping spot for local and out of town campers.  The park offers great camping sites and 2 wonderful beach areas and a boat launch.

Fees

 

Day use charges are $4.00 per vehicle entering the park.  Overnight camping fee is $15.00 per night (or $75.00 for 7 nights)

 

Group camping is available and the rates are $125.00 for one night, $225.00 for two nights, $300.00 for three nights, and $75.00 for each additional night.  There are 13 sleeping units per site, extra units are $8.00 each per night.

 

Long Term Camping:

 

$350.00 per month (Minimum 2 months)

$1,200.00 for the entire season

 

Reservations are accepted by phoning 780-675-5253 during the camping season.

Baptiste Lake Beach and Campground

 

Baptiste Lake is an attractive, popular recreation lake located 16km West of the Town of Athabasca.

 

To reach the lake, take Highway 2 West from Athabasca to a point that the highway turns North.  Proceed West on the local road to the County of Athabasca Recreation area on the Southwest corner of the lake.

 

Overnight and day use 12 sites, picnic shelter, picnic sites, well, boat pier, beach, firewood (fee for bundle), change rooms, fee collector, boat launch, and play area) are available.

Fees

 

$10.00 for overnight and $4.00 for day use or boat launch.  Fees can be paid at the self-registration booth during the week.

Island Lake Campground

 

A picturesque, medium-sized lake that is especially attractive for canoeing with its many islands and bays.

 

The lake is located 20 km Northwest of the Town of Athabasca and is easily accessible from Highway 2, which runs West of Athabasca.  The campground is located on the east side of the lake. 

 

Overnight and day use - 11 sites, outhouses, nature trail, boat pier, and boat launch (small boats only) are available.

Fees

 

$10.00 for overnight and $4.00 for day use.  Fees can be paid at the self-registration booth. 

 

No onsite attendants.

Ghost Lake Campground

 

A tranquil, small lake with a well-treed shoreline, Ghost Lake is located about 25 km Northwest of the Town of Athabasca.  Highway 2 West goes directly by the lake.

 

Overnight and day use (5 sites, picnic tables, outhouses, boat pier, and boat launch) are available.  12 km/hr boat speed limit.

Fees

 

$10.00 for overnight and $4.00 day use. 

 

No onsite attendant. 

 

No reservations.

Hope Lake Campground

 

Hope Lake Campground, located 20 km Northeast of Boyle off Highway 63, is a quiet family oriented campground with a play- ground, swimming area, sandy beach, boat launch, and private boat rentals. 

 

There is a boating restriction of 12 km/hr boat speed limit on lake.

Fees

 

$15.00 for overnight and $4.00 for day use per vehicle entering the park. 

 

Long Term Camping:

 

$350.00 per month (Minimum 2 months)

$1,200.00 for the entire season
