The County of Athabasca provides water and sewer service to the Hamlets of Colinton, Grassland and Wandering River.  The County also provides sewer collection service in the Hamlet of Rochester.

Solid Waste

Transfer Site Guidelines 2010

County residents are served by four (4) solid waste transfer and recycling stations and four (4) solid waste landfill and recycling stations.  The waste is collected at the transfer stations and is then hauled to the Athabasca Regional Waste Management Services Commission Regional Landfill Site.

All sites will accept household waste as well as:

 

·     Non-toxic burnable material (with the exception of the Athabasca Transfer site)

·         Scrap metal

·         White goods (appliances, intact refrigerators and freezers)

·         Tires

·  Agricultural Pesticide Containers (please deliver large quantities directly to the Colinton Transfer site)

·       Recyclable Materials such as Milk Containers, All Plastic Jugs, All Plastic Tubs and Pails, Plastic Bags, Tin Cans, Clear Glass, Cardboard, Newspaper, Office Paper, Fluorescent Light Tubes, TV's and Computers, Oil Jugs and Pails, Ni-cd Rechargeable Batteries, Ink Jet and Toner Cartridges, Lead Acid Batteries and more.

·   Paint – unused paint may be delivered only to the Athabasca Transfer Site or the Boyle Landfill from April 1st to October 31st.

·       Used Oil - may be delivered only to the Athabasca Transfer Site or the Boyle Landfill year round.

 

Items prohibited at all sites are:

 

·       Industrial Solids or Ash

·       Biomedical Waste

·       Liquids or sludge of any type

·       Radioactive Waste

·       Explosives

·       Dangerous Oilfield Waste

·       Dead Animals

·       Automobile Bodies or Heavy Equipment

 

The direction to, hours of operation, and locations of the sites within the County boundaries are as follows:

 

PLEASE NOTE: Some sites may be closed on Statutory Holidays,

so please check your local newspaper to confirm.
